Kent, Asst. Secretary, 13 Park Row, New York, who
will submit the same to the Governors of the Rock-
away Hunting Club, for approval. Dues, $20 per
annum.

The Subscribing Members will be governed by the
By-Laws and Regulations of the Rockaway Hunting
Club.

Members of the Rockaway Hunting Club are en-
titled to one extra badge at $5.00 every race day, for
gentlemen not living within fifty miles of New York

or doing business within those limits.

Entries to all races must be made to’ Mr Am
Kent, Assistant Secretary, 13 Park Row, New York,
orat the course. (P.O. address, Cedarhurst, Woods- -
burg, L. I.) In Club Races the entrance money must
accompany entry.

Entries for the Spring Maiden Hurdle Race and
Rockaway Green Steeplechase will close April 15th.

Entries for the Welter Stakes, Woodsburg Stakes, -
Isle of Wight Handicap, and the Champion Hunter
Steeplechase will close at 12 o’clock noon, May ist.
Weights for the Isle of Wight Handicap will be pub-
lished Thursday, May 2oth, and declarations must be
made by 12 o’clock, noon, May arst.

Entries for all events on the first day (excepting
the Spring Maiden Hurdle Race) will close at 12
o’clock noon, May ist. Handicap weights will be
published by Tuesday, May 4th, and declarations must
be made by 12 o’clock noon, Thursday, May 6th.

Entries for all events (not otherwise specified), on
following days, will close at the course on the pre-
ceding race day within thirty minutes after the last
race. Handicap weights will be published on the
morning of the day following, and declarations must
be made by 12 o’clock, noon,.of the same day.

Any subsequent change in the time for entries,
weights, and declarations will be posted at the course
and at the office of the Association, New York City.

In case of postponement on account of the weather,
notices will be posted at the railroad depots and
ferries.

First Race—Sweepstakes for Polo Ponies.

A sweepstakes for polo ponies of $10 each, p. p.,
with plate added. Minimum weight, 150 lbs., win-
ners in 1885 to carry to lbs. extra. About 4 mile on
the flat.

Second Race—Welter Stakes.

Open sweepstakes of $10 each, p. p., with $500 added,
of which $1oo to the second. Weight for age. En-
tries to close at 12 o’clock, noon, May rst. About #
mile on the flat.

Third Race—Meadow Brook Heavy Weight
Steeplechase.

A sweepstakes for half-bred hunters, of $20 each,
p- p., with a silver cup added by E. D. Morgan, Esq.,

out of the stakes. Minimum weight, 185 lbs. About
24 miles.

Fourth Race—Spring Maiden Hurdle Race.

A Sweepstakes, for horses which have not won a
Steeplechase or Hurdle Race, of $50 each for starters;
$10 forfeit for horses entered by March 1st; and $25
forfeit for horses entered by Afri 15¢h, when stakes
shall close, with $750 added, of which $250 to the
second, and $100 to the third. Weight for age, as
per scale adopted by the Rockaway Steeplechase As-
sociation. About 2 miles.

Fifth Race—Meadow Brook Hunt Cup.

Valued at $500, to be held for one year ; a handicap
sweepstakes of $30 each, h. f., with a special piece of
plate added for the winner, the second to receive $50
out of the stakes. Steeplechase. About 3 miles.

Sixth Race—Hempstead Heath Handicap.

Open handicap steeplechase, for a sweepstakes of
$20 each, h. f., with $500 added, of which $100 to the
second. About 3 miles.

A sweepstakes for hunters, of $20 each, h. f.,
with plate added. Thoroughbreds to carry 170 lbs.
Half-breds allowed 15 lbs. Beaten horses allowed 5
Ibs. About 4 mile on the flat.

Second Race—Open Handicap Flat Race.

Open handicap sweepstakes for all ages, of $10
each, p. p., with $400 added, of which $100 to the
second. About 1 mile on the flat.

Third Race—Hunters’ Handicap Steeplechase.

A handicap sweepstakes for hunters, of $10 each,
p. p., with plate added. About 25 miles.

Fourth Race—Rockaway Green Steeplechase.

A sweepstakes for horses which have not won a
Steeplechase, of $50 each for starters; $10 forfeit for
horses entered by March rst; and $20 for horses
entered by April 15th, when the stakes shall close,
with $750 added, of which $250 to the second, and $100
to the third. Weight for age, as per scale adopted

in 1885, of $10 each, p. p., with $500 added, of which
$100 to the second. Weight for age; non-winners or
winners of not more than $400 since /anuary 1st,
1886, allowed 7 lbs. Entries to close at 12 o’clock
noon, May 1st. About seven furlongs on the flat.

Third Race—Hunters’ Handicap Steeplechase.

A handicap sweepstakes for hunters, of $10 each,
p- p., with plate added. About 24 miles.

Fourth Race—Great Selling Steeplechase.

A Selling Sweepstakes for four-year-olds and up-
ward, of $30, half forfeit, with $750 added, of which
$250 to second, and $100 to third. Entries to close
March ist, 1886. To carry ro lbs. above the weights
for age as per scales adopted by the Rockaway Steeple-
chase Association. The winner to be sold at auction
for $3,000, unless entered to be sold for less, when
the selling price shall be stated through the entry
box by six o’clock on the preceding race day. If to
be sold for $2,000, allowed 5 lbs. ; if for less, allowed
1 lb. for each $100 down to $500; but in no case shall
the selling price diminish the weight to less than 130

A large number of Box Stalls and several Kitchens
have been erected at the adjacent half-mile course,
which will be put in order to enable trainers to work
their horses by CAPTAIN R. H. BLAKE, Superin-
tendent of the Rockaway Steeplechase Association,
Cedarhurst, L. I. All applications to use the track
should be made to him. |

Under no consideration will horses be permitted
to school over the regular steeplechase course, either
before or during the meetings.

Any desired information in reference to the races
can be obtained in the city by applying to ALEx. T.
KenT, Assistant Secretary, 13 Park Row, Room 37, or
at the course to Capt. R. H. Blake, Superintendent.

Rockaway STEEPLECHASE

ASSOCIATION.

All races will be started promptly on time. Three
bells will be rung; the first, one-half hour before the
race, for riders to report at the scales. The saddling
bell will be rung twenty minutes later, when the
horses will appear ready for the parade. The post
bell will ring ten minutes after the saddling bell.

All riders are required to comply with these
rules. Any rider who fails to appear at the scales
ready to weigh out at least thirty minutes before the
time for the calling of the race, will be liable toa fine
of not less than $25.00 for each offense. This rule
will be strictly enforced.

Every trainer who does not bring his horse
promptly to the post at the time appointed for the
race shall be fined.

Owners will be required to pay the entrance money
for their horses to the Clerk of the Scales before
their riders are weighed out for the race.

Owners wishing to scratch their horses from any

race are required to report to the clerk of the scales
at least half an hour before the time set for calling
the jirst race of the day.

If horses are not scratched at the proper time, they
will be required to start, or their owners fined not less
than $25, at the discretion of the Race Committee.

Riders must weigh out at least one half hour be-
fore time of starting, as marked on programme.

Colors must be stated in making entry. Horses
will not be allowed to start in any colors than those
on card, unless by permission of the Judges and the
payment of $10 fine.

Horses must parade and go to starting post under
escort of Hunt servant.

Any surplus on the sale of the winner of selling
races, to be equally divided between the owner of
the second horse and the Racing Fund.

After each meeting, a forfeit list will be prepared
by the Secretary, and delinquent owners will be noti-
fied to settle all claims against them. On their fail-
ure to pay within ten days after the last day of the
meeting, the names on the forfeit list will be pub-
lished in the sporting papers, and a copy be sent to
the Secretaries of all the racing associations and
regular hunt clubs.

No jump to be less than 3 feet 6 inches high, and
the brook 14 feet wide in the clear.

The above scale of weights is subject to the usual sex allowances for
all events excepting Hunter’s or Club races.

PENALTIES AND ALLOWANCES.

The minimum weight in all handicaps shall not
be less than 137. lbs.

In all other races the minimum weight shall not
be less than 130 lbs., including all allowances.

Races are open to all, excepting Club races for
Hunters and Polo Ponies.

Gentlemen riders in open races receive an allow-
ance of 7 Ibs.

In all Club races overweight allowed, but must be
declared half an hour before the time set for calling
the race.

A maiden is a horse that has not won public money
in a Steeplechase or Hurdle Race; Club Races and
races on the flat not included.

Allowances must be claimed at the time of making
entries, otherwise they will not be considered.

HUNTERS.

All Hunter Certificates, as prescribed by the Rock-
away Steeplechase Association, must be filed with
the Assistant Secretary, at the office of the Associa-
tion, on or before April 15th, 1886, and a list of said
certificates will be published in the New York
sporting papers on April 24th.

Protests as to the eligibility of hunters must also
be made in writing to the Assistant Secretary, ac-
companied by $25, at least one week before the first
day of the Spring Meeting.

If a protest is sustained by the Executive Com-
mittee, the $25 will be returned; otherwise it will be
retained by the Association.

A QUALIFIED HUNTER is a horse that has
been regularly hunted at least one season, and is kept
for hunting purposes, and has not won an open
Steeplechase or Hurdle Race during one year
previous to November rst, 1885.

He must further be entered, owned and qualified by a
member of the following hunts (rough riders, grooms
and hunt servants cannot qualify hunters): Elkridge,
Essex County, Genesee Valley, Meadow Brook,
Montreal, Myopia, Queens County, Rockaway,
Rosetree, Toronto, Radnor.

In all Club Races the second horse saves his
stake, and in such races it is optional with the winner
to receive plate or $100.

POLO PONIES.

Polo ponies must be measured and registered by
the Superintendent at the Course in the presence of
a member of the Executive Committee, at least one
day prior to first day of Meeting. Ponies four years
old and over need be measured and registered but
once.

No pony: will be registered or allowed to start that
is Over 14-1.

GENTLEMAN RIDERS.

A Gentleman Rider is one who rides as a pastime,
and not for any compensation, and who is a member
of the Rockaway Hunting Club or Meadow Brook
Hunt. All others wishing to qualify must file their
application with the Assistant Secretary on the form
prescribed by the Association, which application must
be laid before the Executive Committee for approval.

The Rockaway Steeplechase Association will
